Why you first choose Akuna Care?
Akuna is highly recommended by the vets at '4 paws' Neutral Bay. Bart's groomer Ben strongly suggested one-to-one care after Bart was returned to us the first time we boarded him in a very distressed state with serious hot spots. Bart required antibiotics and his beautiful coat had to be shaved. We read the brochure and thought this is for our pet - a member of our family.

Why you continued to use our service?
After the one-to-one care Bart received he came back clean happy well-fed and settles quickly back into his routine. We called during our holiday and always received a report on Bart. We could enjoy our holiday when we knew Bart being looked after well, we like him to receive affection and have a walk and when he has this, my son Julian doesn't have to worry. Julian was very distressed when Bart came back so ill the first time we boarded him - it took a week and lots of expenses and care to return Bart to his former self.
What is your favourite Bart story?
Bart joined our family at 12 weeks as a pet and companion for Julian (then aged 9). For Julian and me it was love at first sight, Bart had us hooked. Dad was more reserved, always very busy in his office at the back of the house. His architectural drawings are always on the floor and are sacrosanct. Bart didn't even go in there Dad had very strict views on dog behavior and we had rules which Bart was cheerfully breaking at the other end of the house. Julian and I fed him, walked him and played with him. We worried that dad and Bart didn't 'understand' each other. Bart's little 'accidents' during house training were quickly cleaned up to avoid Dad noticing and returned his shoes which Bart pinched all the time.
Julian and I had pre-booked a week on the Gold Coast - Dad volunteered to mind Bart and said he would follow his routine. Julian called daily and we received positive reports about feeding and walking. We wondered secretly if any bonding was happening.
We returned and Bart was very welcoming at the front door. Then he turned and led us down the passage to dads study. Bart walked straight in - ran across the papers scattering them and jumping into Dads lap - Dad cuddled him and said he was 'the best dog in the world' - Bart had conquered.
A week later Bart had a very upset stomach and committed a serious 'toileting indiscretion' in dads study - on the drawings!! Dad cleaned it up and blamed himself for letting Bart eat a piece of salami. They are now devoted to each other and Bart still takes his shoes.
Bart's bonding was complete - he had the whole family hooked, we don't know what he did - we've decided he was just himself - Bart.

'Every boy should have two things: a dog and a mother willing to let him have one'
