Why you first choose Akuna Care?
My dog Bruno is our Baby - he is part of our family - and if we could take him on holidays we would.
Being a Staffie puppy he's a muscle of energy and requires a lot of attention.
It would be a big ask to have family or friends look after him for me, and to be honest I've invested a lot of time training him in good house behaviour, which I fear could be ruined in a short time without me here.
Skiing was booked ... but what to do with Bruno? I asked around for referrals to kennels. There is a selection to choose from close to Sydney's Northern Beaches, but Akuna Care was highly recommended by a few people, and although it is some distance from Sydney, I am a firm believer in paying a price for good quality - and this price happened to be distance only - the fees were certainly competitive. I felt the care required outweighed the convenience of a local kennel - and with the door-to-door pick-up this wasn't an issue.
First impressions are everything! The website is professional and comprehensive, which in turn shows a love for what they do.

Why you continued to use our service?
Initially I had a number of telephone conversations with an ever so patient Ariel who answered every question with enthusiasm - and I definitely fit into the overprotective dog owner category.
The door-to-door service is obviously a drawcard, but to be given a call the night before with a 15 minute window pick-up is certainly a well run business - and true to their word Bruno was greeted with a cuddle at our front door by his happy driver AJ.
Although it may appear ridiculous, I really wanted to call Akuna during my holiday to check on Bruno's progress, and when I mentioned it to Marcus he encouraged me to - I would have felt stupid otherwise.
I imagine a lot of pet owners go without holidays for years because they don't want to depend on others to care for their loved one - but this is really so easy. In future I will just incorporate the cost of Akuna into my holiday - it is definitely the best option for us.

This is a Love Story
My childhood dog was named Ben - he was a black poodle x silky x 'something larger' and was the only son in the family. My Dad took him everywhere in the car, shampooed him every Sunday and blow dried his hair. My Mum would grill him chops with melted cheese and talk to him as he followed her from room to room. Being the youngest of three girls myself, I invested hours upon hours dressing him up in dolls clothes and teaching him tricks - he idolised me. He was spoilt rotten.
One day when he was about four he met a 'lady friend' in the street. Strangely they looked quite similar, whatever breed that was. Each afternoon when we returned home we used to let him out for a run. The house I grew up in backed onto a park, so he had loads of fun running around madly. He'd meet up with who we then referred to as his girlfriend and we'd joke about how there might be little "Benny's" running around soon.
Early one evening my sister was driving home with good old fish 'n chips for the family dinner.
Unfortunately that park we backed up on also met with a main road, and Ben happened to be on the other side of it with his girlfriend. My sister stopped the car and yelled out to him to come to her at once. Being the loyal little thing, he did, but then turned and realised his girlfriend didn't follow, so he turned back to get her and was hit by an oncoming car.
My sister ran home - ran into the house - threw the fish 'n chips and screamed at poor old Mum and Dad to come quick. They jumped in the car to find Benny still alive. They drove to the vet - with Dad cradling his only son in his arms - and with Ben not taking his eyes off my Dad - BUT as much as he tried he couldn't hang on - it was Ben's time to go to doggy heaven.
This was a devastating time for the family - and especially extremely sad to see my dad cry - and although this was a love story about two young dogs, I think it was the first time I too had my heart broken - and as you can se
