ABERMAIN KENNELS - 'the country retreat for your pets'
back next Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need to bring our own food?
No. We feed a premium grade dry food called Royal Canin that has been designed specifically to meet all your pets nutritional needs. We also weigh all our guests as they come into care so as to know exactly how much food they should be fed. The high meat content of this product makes for a very tempting dish that 99% of our guests enjoy. The other 1% we entice to eat in a variety of positive ways.
My dog usually lives indoors with me and is very spoilt. How will he cope with the change?
Firstly let me say that Dogs are a lot more adaptable than we give them credit for (ie most dogs adapt to the new kennelling routine and carers (that's us) a lot faster than you would imagine).
The main point is that all of our guests do adjust to being here. For some the adjustment is immediate and for others it can take up to 3 days and of course the more often your pet uses the same kennel the more familiar and comfortable they are with it.(assuming it's a good kennel). For the pets who do have difficulty adjusting we simply spend more time with them, bonding, taking for a walk, sweet talking, cuddling etc .A few days also helps with this as they get used to and become familiar with the daily routine.
Another analogy I like to use is that of us (people) going camping. We don't think about our bed or bathroom or fridge, we simply get into the experience of camping. In a lot of ways its what dogs do with a kennel stay. Over and above that it's also important to consider how social your pets stay will be (if wire fencing is used). Just think, 40 dogs doing different things all around you and at least two friends to meet and sniff noses with on either side of you. It's like being at the local park but for all day.

Will my Dog be able to play with other dogs?
No. All the dogs are played individually with a Akuna Carer present to throw ball, play tug or simply just cuddle and love your dog. Dogs from the same family will be played together unless you tell us. We have found over the years this to be the best approach for the happiness of the dog as what a they crave the most in a kennel environment is human company which you can not do when you play dogs together from different families.
